This is how the road trip started. Traveling down I-40 out of Oklahoma into Texas cannot see 3 car links ahead of you. Talk about intense!
About the time I received a text from my kiddos in the car behind us, asking how long this fog will be here. It cleared off just as I received her text. Talk about power of suggestion.

My husband recently traded in for a 2009 Corvette and he wanted to take it on a longer road trip than within our state of Oklahoma. So we made our plans to go to the Rocky Mountains for a few days.
It turned out the days he wanted to head out were during our daughters birthday. Funny how fast plans change, our road/birthday trip is under way let the plans begin.
Our daughter picked the hotel and I arranged an itinerary for things to do in the area around the hotel of her choice as well as the route we will drive to our destination.
I chose driving by the Capulin Volcano, coming through the east side of Raton, New Mexico. The mesa's are mesmerizing to me, and I love seeing the ancient volcanoes with the lava rock scattered all around the area.
Raton pass was a little white knuckling of a drive. Our daughter, and our son; oh did I forget to mention how the road trip turned birthday trip turned into a family vacation? I thought while we were out of town I would have my son be the pet sitter, and that turned into him asking for those days off and joining us. As I said, funny how fast plans change!
My son and daughter were having issues with her little Pontiac G6 coming down those steep hills. All I could think of was that this is nothing compared to what we face in the Rockies.. Yikes!
The plan was to pull over and get a photo opp in front of the state line sign.. yea that didn't work out when the sign just popped up around the corner while we were going nearly 80 mph! It may have been slower but it felt like we were definitely taking the curves a little too fast for my taste. I mean seriously we are not on the Indy 500 Track for goodness sakes.
I managed to get some photos of the beauty while driving of the snow capped mountains, the Raton, NM sign as well as the state line. You have to be quick on the clicker that is for certain!
