Girls’ Weekend

Good story about three women, who needed a weekend away from their lives to find themselves again.

I decided to join a book reading challenge this year. In this challenge we are given key words and the book you choose has to have one of the monthly key words in the title.

One of January key words is

A Christmas Hope

Hello again my friends and followers!

Finished another fun Christmas read last night. This book is a Christmas murder mystery. Queue the mystery music please. It is set back in like the 1800’s. Claudine is unhappily married to Wallace. Wallace is all about mingling with high society and his wife not shaming his name. While attending a Christmas party a woman is found murdered, and the accused is an author that Claudine respects and doubts that he would ever kill anyone. While the accused is on the run, Claudine seeks out to solve the murder without the knowledge or support from her husband. I found it to be a great story, quick read, and the murder is solved just before Christmas! 🎄

A Christmas Legacy

My latest quick read was so touching. I finished this one last night and I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it. It was so heart felt. I didn’t know the plot so I wasn’t expecting any certain outcome. Didn’t check to see if it’s a romance or not. It seemed more of a mystery to me. Gracie went to cover a few shifts of work for a girl named Millie, at a home doing housekeeping and such. She discovered while working in this home strange things had been going on. It was a page turner for me, I couldn’t wait to find out what in the heck was up with these people?

In the end, you become a little attached to one of the main characters and the end makes you want to cry, but you’re happy with the way it goes. Very well written, and a nice quick Christmas read.

A Christmas Carol

Oh yes such a classic!

Decided this year I’d would read the book before I watch the movie. I just love it! I use to get so scared when I watched this movie version, fantastic! I live every version I have ever seen.

A Quilt for Christmas

I enjoy picking up a book without reading the excerpt. Obviously I knew it was about A Quilt for Christmas. And little Fiona brings everyone together in this wonderfully heartwarming read. She’s about five years old, while her siblings are at school her mother has a medical emergency which brings Fiona to the doorstep of her neighbor, Vera. Fiona spots a quilt that Vera made and tells Vera how her mother has always wanted a patchwork quilt. The story begins with Fiona and Vera acquiring help from the community to make a quilt for Fiona’s mother for Christmas. I loved the characters, Eleanor, what fun she is, we all know an Eleanor at least once in our lifetimes, well written story line and I adored the budding friendship between Evan, Eleanor’s son and Tasha who works at the local flower shop that has volunteered to help with the quilt.  Super quick holiday read.

This book reminded me of when I was involved in a quilting group. It was the AnySoldier Quilting Bees. I found the group in the forums they had at that time. We would each make a quilting square, send them to one person who would sew them together and another would put in the batting and finish it up as a quilt to give a soldier they’d find and nominate for a quilt. I also joined in on a memorial quilt. I wasn’t real knowledgeable about quilting so it was a great way to learn and this book I read brought back those heart warming acts of kindness and kind of reminded me of that group, wondering if I’m still friends with any of them on Facebook.
